In this short composition, two areas of my musical interests converge: on the one hand, my interest in world music is expressed, as the piece revolves around excerpts from two folk songs from Papua New Guinea. First, a folkloric harvest song is used as compositional material, and at the end, a dance song from Papua New Guinea. On the other hand, I use a kind of transformation method based on a well-known speech recognition algorithm called Dynamic Time Warping. By manipulating this algorithm, I create transitions between any sound shapes in my recent compositions. In Dance Song, for example, the opening of the piece forms such a transition from one sound gesture to another.
For the performance of this piece, any arrangement of the eight loudspeakers is acceptable, as long as the loudspeakers are evenly spaced from each other and surround the audience (e.g., an arrangement of eight loudspeakers in a straight row would not be permissible).
